While the Mission of An Orphan Smiles is to improve the social, educational, and physical welfare of orphans in Ukraine, we strive to go beyond the necessities of food and clothing. It is also very important to our organization to be able to provide positive childhood memories and to provide the children meaningful and enjoyable things to do.
The Feed the Soul part of our Mission is to raise funds to give the children fun things to do and to take them to places they would otherwise never get to go. Sadly, most orphans never leave the orphanage grounds. Other opportunities like going to the movies, a show, an arcade, an amusement park, a department store, a pizzaria, and even McDonald's are never made available to them.
An Orphan Smiles would like to make outings like these available for all the children on a regular basis. We also want to provide special activities like sports and games, picnics, birthday celebrations, and arts and crafts.
An Orphan Smiles, with your help, can provide activities such as these to the orphans in Ukraine.
The past two years during the school holidays we have been able to sponsor special trips to Ukraine's Capitol City of Kiev for several groups of children from both Mykolaivka Internat and Tsurupinsk Children's Home. These trips have been memorable and SO MUCH fun for the children. To date we have been able to provide this trip of a lifetime to 60 children. Our goal is that each child from Mykolaivka and from Tsurupinsk will get this opportunity to visit Kiev. See the links at the bottom of this page for photos and information about these trips.
An Orphan Smiles has also been able to provide arts and crafts supplies. Many of the children, especially those that have physical disabilities, enjoy painting and other forms of art.
