FEATURED ARTIST - FEDIA |
Fedia was born in Odessa in 1988 and was abandoned by his mother because of his physical disabilities. He was raised in Tsurupinsk Orphanage for Children with major physical disabilities. Fedia has muscle atrophy both in his hands and legs and can't walk and or use his hands. After leaving Tsurupinsk in August 2008 Fedia was supposed to go to a 'home for the elderly’ - a place for people who cannot take care of themselves because of their age or physical state. However, Fedia managed to convince doctors to let him go to school. As an exception, Fedia was accepted into Lugansk Trade School for students with special needs. He is trained to be an interior designer. He loves painting and paints with his mouth. About nine years ago Fedia was diagnosed with leukaemia and spent 2 years in a
hospital.Despite the fact that he can't use his arms and legs, he gets dressed,
eats, uses his cell phone, moves around and does most other things without any
help. In his village he works in the garden, uses an electric drill and other
tools. Fedia is married to Lena, a young woman from a village near Lugansk with special needs as well, and they have a baby girl born in May 2011. He wanted to have his legs amputated in order to get prosthetics before his daughter was born but the doctors would not do the surgery due to the risk. The doctor who observed Fedia at the hospital told our representative that in his 30+ years of practicing medicine he has not seen a more heroic boy. Fedia is painting to support himself and his family. If you are interested in Fedia's artwork, please contact Lynn. The paintings shown are representative of his work.
